Every week someone calls asking: should I do the tailoring course or fashion design? Here is how I help them decide.

Choose tailoring if you want

  • A quick, focused skill — 1 month at Diya
  • Practical income from alterations and custom stitching for women in your area
  • Lower investment — ₹15,000-20,000 in equipment to start earning
  • To start working in 2-3 months
  • A clear, hands-on skill that does not require creative direction

Tailoring is the foundational craft. Master it and you have a livelihood.

Choose fashion design if you want

  • A career, not just a skill — 6 months for our advanced course
  • To create your own collections and designs
  • To open a boutique, not just take in stitching work
  • Higher earning potential over the long term
  • To express creativity through what you make

Fashion design is broader — pattern making, draping, illustration, fabric studies, and business basics on top of stitching.

Honest comparison

  Tailoring Fashion design (advanced)

Why not both?

Many of our students start with tailoring to begin earning quickly, then return for the fashion design course once they have a base. We give returning students a 20% discount on the advanced course for this reason.

The tailoring course is also a module within the 6-month fashion design course, so you are not missing out either way.
