You have enrolled in our tailoring course, or you are about to. Should you buy your own machine? If yes, which one? Here is the honest answer.
Do you need your own machine right away?
No. Our institute has machines for class use. But if you plan to practice at home (which is critical for progress), buying one helps. Used machines are fine.

Brands I trust in 2026
- Usha — Indian brand, easy to service locally, parts available everywhere
- Singer — historic, reliable, decent customer support
- Brother — slightly premium, excellent for embroidery features
- Avoid — unbranded “imported” machines from online marketplaces
Where to buy in Hubli-Dharwad
- Reliance Digital, Glass House Junction, Hubli — best for warranty and exchange
- Dajibanpeth sewing machine traders — best for used and parts
- Authorised Usha dealer near Hubli Central Bus Stand
The honest advice
If you are unsure, start with a used hand-cranked machine for ₹2,000-3,000. Learn on it for 2-3 months. Upgrade when you are sure you will keep stitching. Most beginners over-buy.
